Takchlor (Eye/Ear Drops)

“FIRST CHOICE OF OPHTHALMOLOGIST FOR OVER 25 YEARS”

Composition: Polymyxin B Sulphate 5000 IU, Chloramphenicol 1%

Categories: ,

Mode of Action: Polymyxin B sulfate in Takchlor Eye Drops interacts with the lipopolysaccharide present in the cytoplasmic outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and dissolves the fatty acid region of the cytoplasmic membrane. This ultimately alters the membrane permeability causing the leakage of cell constituent resulting in bacterial cell death.

Chloramphenicol in Takchlor Eye Drops is bacteriostatic and binds to the bacterial ribosome thereby blocking peptidyl transferase responsible for chain elongation in the process of Protein Synthesis thus resulting in bacterial cell death. Having broad spectrum and is active against many bacterial strains including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli.
