Atropine (Eye Ointment)
COMPOSITION:
Atropine Sulphate 1.0% w/v, Benzalkonium Chloride Solution 0.01% w/v (As Preservative), Sterile Isotonic, Aqueous base
Atropine Eye Drops are competitive inhibitor of the muscrainic acetylcholine receptor responsible for the dilation of the iris sphincter muscles. These muscles are stimulated by acetylcholine for the function of pupil and lens accommodation. Atropine Eye Drops inhibits the stimulation of the muscrainic acetylcholine receptor present on the smooth muscles of the iris and enables the contraction of the radial iris sphincter muscles thus dilating the pupil. The dilation is followed by paralysis of accommodative power i.e., cycloplegia that lasts for a very long period of time.
