GLUMOX contains Acetazolamide as an active agent which is a non-competitive inhibitor of enzyme carbonic anhydrous effective in control of fluid secretion along with reduction in increased eye pressure. Glumox is used in the treatment of glaucoma. According to WHO Acetazolamide comes under the list of essential medicines in basic health. Acetazolamide is derived from sulfonamide.

GLUMOX blocks the action of enzyme carbonic anhydrous results in the reduction of aqueous humour. Amount of aqueous humour is directly proportional to intraocular pressure i.e. intraocular pressure is decreased with decrease in amount of aqueous humour and helpful to treat glaucoma.

GLUMOX is indicated to use in following eye conditions-

  • Chronic simple (open-angle) glaucoma
  • Secondary glaucoma, where glaucoma has developed as a result of other eye disorders
  • Acute angle-closure glaucoma
  • pre-operative condition.

Except glaucoma it can be prescribed in epileptic seizure, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, altitude sickness, cystinuria, periodic paralysis, central sleep apnea, and Dural ectasia.

ADULT- 250mg one tablet 3-4 times a day or as directed by physician.

NOTE- It can be administered to infants about 5-10 mg tablet within 6 hours gap.

Before using GLUMOX tell your doctor about medical history. Glumox should not used in following conditions-

  • adrenal gland problem
  • low level of sodium or potassium in blood
  • severe liver disease.

ADVERSE EFFECTS-

  • Parenthesis,
  • hearing dysfunction or tinnitus,
  • anorexia,
  • altered taste
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • polyuria,
  • drowsiness,
