Acyclovir is an  active agent in VIRA eye ointment, is a guanosin  analog  anti-viral drug used in the treatment of viral infection caused by Herpes simplex and Herpes zoster virus.

As per literary data Acyclovir is non carcinogenic. Acyclovir is non toxic for mammalian cells but in virus it gives toxic effect. Acyclovir may called as prodrug because  in  infected cell acyclovir  is phosphorylated  from monophosphate to triphosphate by cellular enzyme of infected cell which is an active agent against virus.
